The famous Dimple bottle, with the dimples! That’s this one. A true classic, something most of us over the age of 40 would have grown up with, seen some time or other in our fathers’ drinks cabinet. So, i found a bottle at my mum’s house over the holidays, and decided to swipe it, try it and write about it.
And it’s good. But it’s better on the rocks, with ice. It took on a whole new character with ice, the sweetness came out and it was a pleasure to drink. So much so that i finished it a while ago.
It irritated me how hard it was to take off the metal seal, dear J Haig and Co of Edinburgh, and the effort seemed wasted when the plastic cap came into view. If it’s a screwtop, it’s a screwtop! This all seems rather odd to me, to have such an iconic bottle and then hide the plastic under invincible metalwork. Dimple whisky comes in an iconic bottle, a truly iconic bottle!
On the positive, Dimple is a longstanding whisky because it is good. It deserves the definitions of being a classic, deluxe blend. It deserves to have been around for what seems like “forever”.
Grainmash verdict - have it on the rocks, and let the flavour come out.
