As all whisky is made from grain mash, that was chosen as the name of this blog. its a good name. originally, i thought about using the original names, begging forgiveness for believing that most would never remember the gaelic equivalent, and went in search of domain names such as “water of life” and the latin “aqua vitae”.
The owner of wateroflife.com apparently paid more than 5000 sterling for the domain quite some years ago and wanted more for it. That proved too much for me. The owner of aquavitae.com was willing to part with that domain for 4500 USD, but again that was too much for me.
So i did a quick hunt around for generic whisky wording, or phrases, and found that wikipedia made reference to all whisky being made from grain mash. I checked and found grainmash.com available for about twenty nicker, and the rest is history. I’d like to thank Niki for coming up with the notion of the “grog blog” which is now part of the strapline.
There is no doubt that grain mash is key to the site, as is any reference to whisky, whiskey, malt, single malt, rye, bourbon, madeira, sherry, casks and any other reference to copper stills, distilleries, scotch, vats, barrels, tuns, angels’ shares, warehouses, and all other matters pertaining to the creation of whisky, and so much more will follow.
I hope that in good time i can introduce experts to contibute alongside me, and collaborate on this search, for whilst the grainmash posts will be my own personal search, there is no reason to ignore any other opinion and guidance is most welcome. So, if you have pictures to offer, images of distilleries and such like, please send them on in. I particularly like this one of mash tun machinery -
