Arran Machrie Moor 10 Year Old strikes a wonderful balance between vibrant island character and gentle peat smoke. Bright citrus, sweet vanilla and orchard fruits lead the way before earthy smoke, cracked black pepper and warming spice gradually emerge. The palate is rich yet fresh, with honeyed sweetness softening the peat and creating a beautifully layered dram. The long, lingering finish leaves behind notes of toasted oak, soft smoke and a touch of sea breeze, making it an elegant introduction to peated whisky without ever overwhelming the palate.

Released in 2022, Machrie Moor 10 arrived with an interesting story: the peated spirit was distilled at Lochranza before Arran moved its peated production to Lagg. But that history has not created collector momentum. Auction values have slipped from around £60 in 2023 to £40 in 2025, an indicative decline of roughly 10% a year, while new bottles remain readily available around £50 to £60. With regular production and plenty of stock still circulating, there is little scarcity pressure today. Our view: the Lochranza connection may become more interesting with time, but right now this is a whisky whose smoky character is considerably more rewarding than its investment prospects.
