Auchentoshan Three Wood is a wonderfully rich Lowland single malt, bursting with notes of dark berries, dried fruit and creamy butterscotch. Hints of orange, hazelnut and warming cinnamon add depth, while dark chocolate and gentle oak linger on the palate. First bottled in 2002, Auchentoshan Three Wood has now been discontinued, which might sound like the beginning of an investment story. The numbers are less exciting. Older presentations sold around £30 in 2014 and reached roughly £50 to £65 during stronger periods, while more recent auction results have fallen below those levels. Genuine scarcity has not arrived yet either, with bottles still appearing for sale online. Our view: discontinued status gives it some collector appeal, but demand has not followed strongly enough. Unless that changes, this is a bottle we would rather open than wait years for a modest return.
