Dark fruit preserves and figs meet tart orchard fruit, blackberry and cherry, with tobacco adding a deeper edge. Freshly baked bread and rye introduce an unusual malty, savoury character, while gooseberry brings a welcome flash of acidity. Coffee, cinnamon and a suggestion of smoke emerge later, leading into a finish of berry jam, toasted grain and gentle spice.

Benrinnes 2009 11 Year Old Adelphi is Cask 301811, matured in a first fill Oloroso sherry hogshead and bottled in 2020 with only 321 bottles produced. This one has useful early auction evidence: it achieved £91 in September 2020, £86 in October and £70 in January 2021, a decline of roughly 23% in only four months. Annualising such a short period would exaggerate the fall, so approximately −12% is a more cautious indicative measure of its early secondary market performance. Interestingly, remaining retail stock is now advertised from around €165, but asking prices are not evidence of achieved value. Our view: the sherry cask, small outturn and Adelphi name are attractive, but there is not enough evidence of sustained collector demand to justify preserving it purely as an investment.
