Dark berries and ripe strawberries lead this mature Blair Athol, followed by dried fruit, bitter chocolate and a touch of orange peel. The Oloroso cask brings a deep nutty quality, with old leather, espresso and polished wood appearing as the whisky develops. Dense and savoury beneath the fruit, it closes with cocoa, dark cherry and drying spice, giving this rare single cask an impressively deep, old fashioned sherry character.

Blair Athol 1997 21 Year Old Adelphi is Cask 5773, matured in a first fill Oloroso sherry cask and bottled in 2019 with only 200 bottles produced. It is exceptionally well regarded, scoring 90.38 on Whiskybase. Importantly, there is genuine auction history: it achieved £290 at Scotch Whisky Auctions in November 2019 and £251 at Just Whisky in December 2022. That represents a decline of roughly 13% and an indicative CAGR of approximately −4.4% over that period. Given the thin trading, we would moderate the longer term historical indication to around −2%. Our view remains Invest: 21 years of age, exceptional reviews, deep sherry maturation and only 200 bottles give it strong collector fundamentals, although its past price performance shows that rarity does not guarantee appreciation.
