Details

Dark, smoky and wonderfully complex, this peated Bunnahabhain layers dried figs, plums and orange peel with dark chocolate, tobacco and burnt caramel. Earthy peat and tarry smoke bring plenty of intensity, while sea salt, roasted nuts and warming spice give the whisky a distinctly savoury edge. Rich and oily at cask strength, it finishes with lingering smoke, cocoa, spice and dry oak, creating a powerful Islay dram where peat and Amontillado work beautifully together.

Drink | Historical CAGR: approximately −2.3% | Market outlook: Limited

Bunnahabhain 2003 Amontillado is a 15 Year Old distillery exclusive, distilled in February 2003 and bottled in January 2019 after its final two years in Amontillado sherry hogsheads, with 1,710 individually numbered bottles produced. This one has useful auction history: Just Whisky achieved £130 in September 2019, while another bottle sold for £110.21 in May 2025. That represents a decline of roughly 15% and an indicative CAGR of approximately −2.3%. Interestingly, current retail asking prices start around €200, but achieved auction values remain considerably lower. Our view: the distillery exclusive status, strong 89.24 Whiskybase score and unusual Amontillado maturation make it collectible, but the actual price history does not support an investment case. We would drink this one.
