Details

Dark, smoky and beautifully sherried, this Caol Ila layers red berries and ripe plums with treacle, dark chocolate and caramel. Ashy peat and wood smoke run throughout, while sea air, tobacco and roasted nuts bring a distinctly savoury Islay character. Thick and powerful yet impressively balanced, it finishes long with lingering smoke, dark fruit and cocoa, creating a wonderfully rich meeting of peat and sherry.

Caol Ila 2008 12 Year Old Adelphi Cask 309444 was bottled in 2020 from a single refill bourbon cask with only 308 bottles produced. It is now sold out at The Whisky Exchange and has subsequently appeared at Whisky Auctioneer and Whisky Hammer, including auctions in 2022, 2023 and 2025. Unfortunately, the accessible archived pages do not expose enough completed hammer prices to calculate a defensible CAGR, despite there being genuine auction activity. Our view: the combination of Caol Ila's strong enthusiast following, single cask Adelphi provenance and a permanently limited supply gives it reasonable long term collector potential. We would keep it sealed, although it is a niche collectible rather than a proven high growth investment.
