Details

Rich, fruity and wonderfully full bodied, this Dufftown layers stewed apple, dark cherries and apricot with caramel, chocolate cake and sweet almonds. Raisins and dates bring a deep sherried richness, while clove and warming spice give the palate plenty of energy. Oily and powerful at cask strength, it finishes long with dried fruit, pastry sweetness and gentle oak, creating a beautifully mature Speyside with impressive balance and depth.

Dufftown 1999 20 Year Old Adelphi is Cask 2140, bottled in 2019 after 20 years in a refill PX sherry cask, with only 238 bottles produced. Interestingly, this is a teaspooned malt believed to originate from William Grant & Sons stock in Dufftown, commonly associated with Balvenie and Glenfiddich, which gives the release an extra layer of collector interest. It originally retailed around £140 and is now completely sold out at major retailers. I checked Whisky Auctioneer, The Grand Whisky Auction, Whisky Online, Just Whisky and other indexed auction records, but could not verify two completed hammer prices for this exact cask, so a CAGR would be speculative. Our view: the mature age, tiny outturn, Adelphi provenance and unusual undisclosed Dufftown origin make this worth keeping sealed, although the thin secondary market keeps the outlook cautious.
