Details

Dark and distinctly old school, this Mortlach combines raisins, ripe berries and prune with dark chocolate, polished wood and worn leather. Pepper and cinnamon sharpen the sherry sweetness, while a savoury, almost meaty quality gives the whisky its unmistakable Dufftown character. The finish becomes drier with cocoa, spice and aged oak, creating a powerful and wonderfully distinctive expression from the classic Flora & Fauna collection.

Invest | Historical CAGR: approximately +3.7% | Market outlook: Cautiously positive

Mortlach 16 Year Old Flora & Fauna is one of the stronger collector bottles in the discontinued series, and unlike many rarer whiskies we have assessed, there is excellent auction data. Nearly 900 secondary market transactions have been recorded, with the long term annualised return since 2015 sitting at approximately +3.7%. The bottle sold for £90 in December 2015, reached a market peak above £220 in 2021, and more recent results include £150 in January 2025, £180 in August 2025 and £160 in both February and April 2026. The market has cooled significantly from its peak, with the latest average around £125, but our view remains Invest. Discontinued Flora & Fauna status, strong Mortlach recognition and unusually deep secondary market liquidity give this bottle genuine collector credentials, although near term growth may be slower than its earlier appreciation.
