Hennessy X.O Extra Old is one of Cognac’s most recognisable prestige bottlings, first created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870. For the standard modern bottle, however, recognition has not translated into scarcity or sustained secondary market growth. Whisky Online Auctions records 17 sales, with a high of £110 back in 2013 but only £77.50 in August 2026. More recent UK results reinforce the pattern: £90 in June 2025, £110 in August, £100 in October and November, and £110 in June 2026. Using £110 in 2013 against £77.50 in 2026 gives an indicative CAGR of roughly −2.7%. Our view: the standard X.O is an excellent luxury Cognac to drink, but continuing production and plentiful supply limit its investment case. Older presentations and discontinued decanters should be assessed separately.
