Lush and wine driven, this Kavalan opens with ripe berries, dried fruit and juicy grapes before moving into caramel, dark chocolate and candied orange. The Madeira cask introduces a vinous sweetness alongside toasted nuts and aromatic spice, with seasoned wood providing contrast underneath. The finish turns towards cocoa, fruit preserves and gentle oak, giving this rare single cask a distinctive balance of richness and fruit.

Kavalan Distillery Reserve Madeira Cask should not be confused with the 70cl Solist Madeira Cask. The Distillery Reserve releases are small 30cl single cask bottlings, usually around 480 to 520 bottles per cask. Auction evidence is quite revealing: comparable Madeira Distillery Reserves achieved €211 in September 2022 and €220 in October 2023, before falling to €136 in July 2024 and €93 in April 2026. Using €211 in 2022 against €93 in 2026 gives an indicative range level CAGR of roughly −19%, although individual casks differ; a more conservative longer term indication is around −9%. Our view: these are genuinely scarce and unusual Kavalan releases, but scarcity has not prevented a substantial secondary market correction. Unless your particular cask has exceptional provenance, we would drink rather than invest.
