Dry, nutty and enticingly complex, this Kavalan opens with dried apricot, toasted almonds and walnuts, followed by honey, caramel and worn leather. Pepper and toasted wood bring a savoury edge, keeping the fruit and sweetness firmly in check. The finish leans towards roasted nuts, gentle spice and seasoned oak, giving this Solist a sophisticated, distinctly drier personality compared with Kavalan’s more opulent sherry cask releases.

Kavalan Solist Amontillado is one of the more compelling Solist releases, combining relatively scarce Amontillado maturation with Kavalan’s established single cask following. Auction evidence is considerably stronger than for many bottles we have assessed. Examples achieved £225 in 2016, £305 in 2018 and £190 in 2019, while more recent results include £170 in 2023, £170 in 2024 and £200 in March 2026. Importantly, Cask AM100623018A provides an even cleaner comparison, selling for €260 in March 2025 and €300 just five months later. Given the different casks involved, approximately +5% is a more reasonable long term indicative CAGR than relying on the strongest individual results. Our view: the combination of small single cask outturns, high enthusiast ratings and comparatively rare Amontillado maturation makes this one worth keeping sealed.
