Rich, powerful and bursting with tropical character, this Kavalan brings together ripe mango, dried berries and bright citrus with dark chocolate, vanilla and caramelised sweetness. Peppery spice and polished oak cut through the fruit, giving the whisky impressive structure and keeping its richness beautifully balanced. Dense and velvety on the palate, it finishes long and warming with lingering dark fruit, cocoa, spice and a pleasantly dry touch of oak. Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique is one of Kavalan’s flagship single cask releases and arguably one of the most important expressions in the Solist collection. Individual casks are genuinely small, commonly producing around 150 to 250 bottles. For example, Cask W101207001 produced just 217 bottles, while another 2012 release produced 210. Auction performance varies considerably by cask: W101207001 achieved £105 to £110 in 2017 and £97.50 in 2019, while more recent Vinho Barrique casks have achieved around £120 to £170. Our view: Vinho Barrique has stronger collector credentials than most Kavalan releases thanks to its reputation, single cask format and tiny individual outturns. We would keep it sealed, especially an older or highly rated cask.
