Toasted malt loaf and apricot jam open the way, with golden syrup and creamy nuttiness adding a comforting sweetness. Stewed plum and milk chocolate develop across the palate, joined by coconut and restrained oak. Raspberry appears towards the close alongside chocolate buttercream, giving this Mortlach an appealing combination of fruit, confectionery and gentle sherry influence.

Mortlach 2003 17 Year Old Adelphi Cask 800263 was bottled in 2021 from a single refill sherry hogshead, producing just 267 bottles. A verified Just Whisky auction achieved £131 in June 2021, while the bottle has subsequently appeared several more times at auction, although accessible archives do not disclose usable hammer prices for those later sales. Remaining retail stock is now around £205, but we would not treat that asking price as evidence of appreciation. Our view: Mortlach has an established enthusiast following, and the combination of 2003 vintage, 17 years of maturation, Adelphi provenance and only 267 bottles makes this worth keeping sealed. The investment case is attractive, but the thin trading history prevents us from claiming a reliable CAGR.
