Pittyvaich 12 Year Old- Flora and Fauna

Details

Fruity, malty and intriguingly old fashioned, this rare Pittyvaich opens with pineapple, orchard fruit and creamy vanilla alongside sweet cereal and honeyed malt. As it develops, drier notes of oak, leather and gentle spice emerge, giving the whisky a slightly unusual, rustic character. Soft sweetness keeps everything balanced before a warming finish of malt, fruit and dry oak. Distinctive rather than polished, it is a fascinating dram from one of Scotland’s long closed distilleries.

Pittyvaich 12 Year Old Flora & Fauna has one major advantage over most bottles in the range: Pittyvaich is a lost distillery, having closed in 1993 after only around 18 years of production, and this Flora & Fauna release was its only regular official bottling during the distillery’s lifetime. The auction data is unusually deep, with more than 400 recorded transactions. A standard bottle sold for £75 in 2016 and £110 in 2018, while recent results include £120 to £150 in 2025 and £110 in May 2026. Broader market data calculates an annualised return of approximately +2.7% since 2015, although values have fallen about 18% over the latest 12 months. Our view: the recent correction makes the outlook cautious, but closed distillery status, finite supply and strong auction liquidity make this one worth keeping sealed.
