Dark, muscular and unmistakably sherried, this Cragganmore delivers cooked fruits, rich chocolate and roasted nuts alongside deeper notes of tobacco, leather and malt. The palate is oily and powerful, with citrus bringing a welcome flash of freshness through the darker Oloroso flavours. Warming oak and spice build towards a long, robust finish, making this a wonderfully intense dram with plenty of old-fashioned character and depth.

Big, Bold and Boisterous is SMWS 37.128, a 14 Year Old Cragganmore distilled in November 2004 and matured in a first fill Oloroso sherry hogshead, with only 267 bottles produced. It is well regarded by enthusiasts, scoring around 88.6 on Whiskybase, but its auction history tells a less convincing investment story. A bottle achieved £85 in January 2020, falling to £65 in October 2021 and £66 in November 2022. There are currently no tracked retail offers, so it is genuinely difficult to find, but scarcity has not translated into rising prices. Our view: an appealing mature, sherry driven Cragganmore, but the evidence favours opening it rather than waiting for financial appreciation.
