SMWS "In the Mood" is a lively and expressive Speyside single malt, bursting with fresh orchard fruits, lemon curd and delicate floral notes. Sweet vanilla and honeyed malt are joined by warming cinnamon and gentle spice, while crisp green apple and rhubarb bring a vibrant freshness that keeps the palate beautifully balanced. Released in 2021, In the Mood is SMWS 73.127, a 10 Year Old Aultmore drawn from a single first fill bourbon barrel with only 234 bottles produced. It originally cost £48.40, yet the secondary market has never developed enough activity to establish a convincing growth rate, while occasional bottles can still surface around the £80 mark internationally. The tiny outturn sounds highly collectible, but SMWS produces thousands of similarly scarce single casks, so bottle count alone rarely drives sustained demand. Our view: charmingly rare, but without stronger auction momentum or particular significance within the SMWS catalogue, this is one where the contents are likely to prove more rewarding than the return.
