Details

Mature and wonderfully distinctive, this Dutch single malt brings baked orchard fruit and orange peel together with dark chocolate, caramel and roasted nuts. Treacle and dried fruit lend a deeper sweetness, while polished oak, warming spice and an earthy undertone reveal its long maturation. The finish turns towards cocoa, fruit and seasoned wood, giving this unusual old Zuidam an intriguing balance of richness and maturity.

Zuidam 1999 19 Year Old Adelphi is Cask 2547, matured in a first fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead and bottled in 2021 with only 165 bottles produced. This is an unusually small release from a distillery whose whisky is rarely independently bottled, and it has a strong 87.31 Whiskybase score from 63 ratings. I checked specifically for auction history: the exact bottle has appeared at The Grand Whisky Auction, but the archived result does not expose the achieved hammer price, so there are not two reliable sale prices from which to calculate CAGR. Remaining retail supply is now scarce and expensive, with Whiskybase tracking bottles from roughly €280. Our view: the 1999 vintage, 19 year age statement, only 165 bottles and unusual Zuidam and Adelphi combination make this worth keeping sealed.
