Rich, distinctive and beautifully mature, this Dutch single malt layers dark dried fruit, orange peel and caramel with roasted nuts, dark chocolate and warming spice. Notes of vanilla and treacle bring a generous sweetness, while polished oak and a slightly earthy character add depth and maturity. Full bodied and wonderfully expressive, it finishes long with lingering fruit, cocoa and spice, making this a fascinating old Millstone with plenty of character and complexity.

Zuidam 1999 19 Year Old Adelphi is a particularly unusual release from the Dutch distillery behind Millstone whisky. Distilled in 1999 and bottled by Adelphi after 19 years of maturation, it came from Cask 355 and produced only 198 bottles. Unlike most Adelphi releases, its appeal comes from combining an established Scottish independent bottler with mature continental European whisky from a period when Zuidam was producing whisky on a much smaller scale. The bottle has become extremely difficult to find, but auction appearances are too infrequent to calculate a credible historical CAGR. Our view: this is one to preserve. The 1999 vintage, 19 year age statement, tiny outturn and unusual Adelphi and Zuidam combination give it genuine long term collector appeal, even though the secondary market is currently very thin.
