Details

Young, powerful and impressively complex, this Ardnamurchan combines rich sherry with a wonderfully savoury edge. Orange marmalade, roasted almonds and dark chocolate mingle with nutmeg, tobacco and salted caramel, while medicinal peat and charred citrus bring plenty of character. The palate is oily and intense, with ginger, liquorice and a touch of coastal salinity leading into a long finish of mocha, green tea and lingering smoke. A bold, characterful dram that punches well above its five years.

Invest | Historical CAGR: approximately −11% | Market outlook: Speculative

Ardnamurchan 2015 5 Year Old Maclean & Bruce Adelphi is historically significant as the first independently bottled Ardnamurchan, released in 2020 from two Oloroso sherry butts with just 1,333 bottles produced. The secondary market initially responded strongly, with early auction results reaching around £140, but values subsequently fell sharply. Later sales around £85 to £110 were followed by recent results closer to £50 to £75. Using a representative £85 sale in late 2021 against roughly £49 more recently gives an indicative CAGR of approximately −11%, equivalent to a fall of around 42%. Despite that performance, our view is still Invest. Supply is permanently fixed and its status as Ardnamurchan's first independent bottling gives it historical significance that ordinary early releases cannot replicate. At today's lower valuations, we see greater long term potential, although this remains a speculative collector bottle rather than a proven appreciating asset.
