Details

Rich, malty and distinctly old fashioned, this rare Balmenach combines honeyed cereal, ripe orchard fruit and gentle citrus with earthy herbs, toasted nuts and warming spice. A subtle waxiness gives the palate extra weight, while touches of oak and pepper bring a pleasantly dry, savoury edge. Rounded and quietly complex, it finishes with lingering malt, fruit and herbal spice, showcasing the robust character that makes older Balmenach bottlings so intriguing.

Balmenach 12 Year Old Flora & Fauna is one of the more interesting discontinued bottles in the series. Released in the 1990s and withdrawn after only a relatively short production run, it remains one of very few official Balmenach single malts ever released. Auction history shows a clear long term increase, with bottles that once traded around £80 to £100 subsequently moving into roughly the £140 to £180 range, while particularly desirable older presentations can achieve more. On comparable long term transactions, that suggests an indicative CAGR around +4%, although individual results vary with label and packaging. Unlike the current Flora & Fauna releases, no new supply is entering the market. Our view: its discontinued status, unusual distillery provenance and established collector interest make this one worth keeping sealed.
