Details

Rich, savoury and wonderfully distinctive, this Blair Athol layers cooked orchard fruit and bright grapefruit with deeper notes of leather, cigar box and gentle oak. Hints of cola and menthol bring an unexpected freshness, while a subtle roasted character adds weight and complexity. Full bodied and beautifully balanced between sweetness and salinity, it finishes long with lingering fruit, spice and mature oak.

Drink | Historical CAGR: approximately −3% | Market outlook: Limited

Blair Athol 14 Year Old RAF Benevolent Fund Adelphi is Cask 2651, distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2020 from an Oloroso sherry hogshead, with only 289 bottles produced. It was created to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, giving it stronger provenance than the standard Adelphi Blair Athol releases. Auction evidence is useful here: two bottles achieved £120 and £125 in October and November 2020, another sold for £120 in November 2022, and a later example achieved £100 in June 2023. Using £120 in 2020 against £100 in 2023 gives an indicative CAGR of roughly −5.9%; smoothing across the available results suggests around −3% overall. Our view: the RAF connection and tiny outturn make it collectible, but the actual auction trend has not rewarded holders. For now, we would drink rather than invest.
