Deeply sherried with a distinctly maritime streak, this Bunnahabhain brings together black cherries, figs and raisins with treacle, cocoa and roasted nuts. Espresso and tobacco introduce a darker savoury side, while orange peel and sea salt provide welcome contrast to the dense sweetness. The finish carries dried fruit, coffee and coastal salinity, giving this youthful Islay an impressively mature personality.

Bunnahabhain 2009 10 Year Old Adelphi Cask 900023 has enough auction history to give us a clearer picture. It achieved £100 at Just Whisky in September 2019 and £95 in March 2020, while the same exact cask is currently around £95 at Whisky Auctioneer in September 2026. Taking £100 in 2019 against roughly £95 today gives an indicative CAGR of around −1%, essentially a flat market over seven years. The fundamentals are appealing, including single cask production, first fill Oloroso maturation, Adelphi provenance and fewer than 700 bottles, but collectors have not rewarded that scarcity with meaningful price appreciation. Our view: excellent whisky, but the actual market evidence favours drinking rather than investing.
