The palate carries plenty of weight and intensity, with the smoke gradually giving way to warming spice and the natural strength of the spirit. Glenrothes 1985 12 Year Old Adelphi is a genuine old style independent bottling, distilled in 1985 and bottled in 1997, when Adelphi was still in its early years. The 70cl release is recorded at 56.5%, while a separate 75cl Cask 8711 was bottled in 1996, so the two should not be mixed when comparing values. I checked the auction trail again specifically for the 70cl bottle. Whisky Auctioneer confirms multiple appearances, including a June 2026 auction, but its completed historical hammer prices are locked behind account access, so there still are not two publicly verifiable achieved prices from which we can responsibly calculate CAGR. Our view remains Invest: a 1985 vintage, 1990s bottling, early Adelphi provenance and extremely limited market availability give this considerably stronger collector credentials than most modern independent releases.
