Rich, vibrant and wonderfully old school, this Glenrothes combines ripe orchard fruit and dried apricot with honey, caramel and toasted nuts. Orange peel and warming spice bring freshness, while touches of dark chocolate, malt and mature oak give the whisky a deeper, slightly savoury edge. Full bodied and lively at cask strength, it finishes long with lingering fruit, cocoa and spice, delivering impressive depth and character for a 12 year old Speyside.

Glenrothes 1985 12 Year Old Adelphi Cask 8710 was distilled in 1985 and bottled in 1997, making it a particularly early Adelphi release from only a few years after the independent bottler was established. It has now completely disappeared from conventional retail, while Whisky Auctioneer confirms that examples continue to surface at auction, including in 2026. I searched specifically for achieved prices for Cask 8710, but the accessible auction records do not provide enough verified historical hammer prices to calculate a defensible CAGR. Specialist asking prices have reached £572, but we would not use that as evidence of achieved value. Our view: the 1985 vintage, 1990s bottling, single cask provenance and early Adelphi presentation make this a genuine collector bottle. We would keep it sealed.
