Dark, intense and unapologetically sherried, this Kavalan is packed with raisins, figs and ripe cherries alongside dark chocolate, treacle and roasted walnuts. Cinnamon, clove and bitter orange cut through the richness, while touches of coffee and polished oak bring a darker, more savoury edge. Thick and powerful on the palate, it finishes exceptionally long with lingering dried fruit, cocoa, spice and dry oak. A proper sherry bomb with enormous concentration and character.

Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask has a much deeper auction history than many of the SMWS bottles, although individual casks vary considerably. Verified UK results include £80 in 2018, £95 in 2019, £130 in 2020 and £170 for another Sherry Cask in 2024, while a 2025 release achieved £160. A 2024 edition with only 173 bottles then sold for £150 in March 2026. Using £80 in late 2018 and £150 in early 2026 gives an indicative range level CAGR of roughly +9%, but because these are different single casks, we would use a more conservative approximately +4% for the range rather than imply identical performance. Our view: Kavalan's reputation, sherry maturation and genuinely limited single casks make this worth keeping sealed, although the specific cask number can materially affect its value.
