Kilch Ard Adelphi

Kilch Ard Adelphi

Details

Young, smoky and bursting with Islay character, Kilch Ard combines earthy peat and bonfire smoke with bright citrus, sweet malt and creamy vanilla. Sea salt and mineral notes bring a distinctly coastal edge, while pepper, charred oak and subtle sweetness add depth to the powerful smoke. Oily and energetic on the palate, it finishes with lingering peat, citrus and maritime salinity, delivering a bold and impressively characterful dram for its age.

Invest | Historical CAGR: Not established | Market outlook: Positive

Kilch Ard is one of Adelphi’s more unusual modern releases, a 4 Year Old blended malt created from just two casks: a bourbon cask from Kilchoman and a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask from Ardnamurchan. Bottled in 2020, only 686 bottles were produced. Contemporary evidence puts the original price around £55, with reports of bottles already changing hands above £200 during 2020, showing unusually strong initial collector interest. I could not verify enough individual completed auction hammer prices across subsequent years to calculate a defensible CAGR. Our view: keep it sealed. The one off collaboration, tiny production, Adelphi connection and collectability of both Kilchoman and early Ardnamurchan give Kilch Ard a much stronger story than its four year age statement suggests.
