Rich, dark and wonderfully indulgent, this Dailuaine delivers layers of raisins, dates and stewed plums alongside dark chocolate, treacle and roasted nuts. Orange peel and warming spice bring brightness to the heavy sherry character, while touches of coffee and dry oak add depth and balance. Full bodied and satisfyingly smooth, it finishes with lingering dried fruit, cocoa and sweet spice, making this a proper sherry lover’s dram with plenty of richness and character.

Laudale Speyside Batch 3 is a 12 Year Old Dailuaine bottled by Adelphi in 2020 after maturation in first fill sherry casks, with 1,420 bottles released. Importantly, there is auction evidence: Whisky Auctioneer recorded a £122 hammer price in March 2020, while current auction market data places the bottle around £100. Taking £122 as the early secondary market benchmark and roughly £100 today gives an indicative annualised decline of about 3%. Retail asking prices are considerably higher, including €199 to €195 equivalent listings, but those should not be confused with achieved auction value. Our view: the heavily sherried Dailuaine character and discontinued Batch 3 make it interesting, but 1,420 bottles and weak price progression limit its investment case. We would drink this one.
