Smoky and wonderfully unconventional, this Longrow brings together lemon zest, green apple and creamy vanilla with earthy peat, sea spray and charred oak. The Chardonnay cask introduces a vinous fruitiness and subtle acidity, cutting neatly through the heavier smoke. Hints of wax, pepper and mineral salinity emerge underneath, before a finish of citrus, coastal peat and dry spice. A lively, slightly wild Campbeltown malt with plenty of individuality.

Longrow 2007 9 Year Old Springbank Society was distilled in November 2007, matured in fresh Sauternes hogsheads and bottled in 2017, with only 1,134 bottles released. Unlike many of the bottles we have assessed, there is a useful auction trail. Whisky Online recorded £65 in April 2019, Just Whisky achieved £130 in 2020 and £160 in 2022, while later results cooled to £100 in June 2024. Using the comparable £65 result in 2019 and £100 in 2024 gives an indicative CAGR of approximately +8%. The decline from its £160 peak shows that the Springbank boom has cooled, but the bottle still sits substantially above its earlier secondary market value. Our view: Springbank provenance, Society exclusivity, Sauternes maturation and finite supply make this worth keeping sealed, although future growth may be slower than during the 2020 to 2022 surge.
