Details

Dark and distinctly old school, this Mortlach combines raisins, ripe berries and prune with dark chocolate, polished wood and worn leather. Pepper and cinnamon sharpen the sherry sweetness, while a savoury, almost meaty quality gives the whisky its unmistakable Dufftown character. The finish becomes drier with cocoa, spice and aged oak, creating a powerful and wonderfully distinctive expression from the classic Flora & Fauna collection.

Invest | Historical CAGR: approximately +2% | Market outlook: Cautiously positive

Mortlach 16 Year Old Flora & Fauna has one of the strongest auction histories in the series, with Whisky Online recording 70 completed sales. A comparable bottle achieved £90 in December 2015, rising to a peak of £175 in 2021. More recently the market has cooled, with results including £150 in February 2026 and £110 in May 2026. Using £90 in 2015 and £110 in 2026 gives an indicative CAGR of approximately +2%. The important story here is scarcity: this Flora & Fauna edition is discontinued, while current retailer asking prices are now around £245 to £395, substantially above recent auction values. Our view: keep it sealed. Mortlach has genuine collector recognition and the bottle has appreciated over the long term, although the retreat from its 2021 peak makes the near term outlook more cautious.
