Details

This exceptionally rare single grain whisky has matured into a remarkably elegant and complex dram. Rich vanilla, buttery toffee and honeyed caramel are beautifully balanced by dried fruits, polished oak and gentle spice, while subtle hints of mocha and tropical fruit add remarkable depth. Silky and refined on the palate, it finishes long with lingering notes of sweet oak, soft spice and delicate toasted coconut. Gracefully matured over 37 years, it's a whisky that showcases just how rewarding well aged grain whisky can be.

Invest | Historical CAGR: Not established | Market outlook: Positive

This is where scarcity becomes meaningful. Distilled in 1973 and bottled in 2010 after 37 years, Late Lamented came from just two casks and produced only 125 bottles. North of Scotland itself closed in 1980 and was later demolished, so neither the spirit nor this release can ever be recreated. One verified bottle achieved £140 at auction in 2022, but appearances are now exceptionally rare and there are currently no bottles listed through Whiskybase retailers. With so few transactions, calculating CAGR would give a misleading impression of performance. Our view: 1970s whisky from a lost distillery, just 125 bottles and virtually no retail availability create a compelling long term collector story. This is one we would keep sealed.
