Dried apricot, raisins and cooked banana meet cocoa, toasted hazelnuts and dark caramel, creating a deep and indulgent opening. Sweet pipe tobacco and hints of Port introduce a more sophisticated edge, while nutmeg and cinnamon bring aromatic warmth. Toasted oak gradually takes over towards the finish, leaving chocolate, dried fruit and gentle spice in a refined Venezuelan rum with impressive depth.

Diplomático Ambassador Selection is a premium Venezuelan release made from long aged reserves and finished in Pedro Ximénez casks. Despite its “Limited Edition” positioning, the secondary market shows little evidence of sustained appreciation. A numbered bottle achieved £170 at Scotch Whisky Auctions in June 2020, and another still achieved £170 in January 2024. More recent results have softened: RumTrades recorded €155 in 2023, €140 in August 2025 and €145 in November 2025, while RumX currently places recent auction values broadly between €140 and €231. Using £170 in 2020 against roughly £122 for the August 2025 sale gives an indicative CAGR around −6%; allowing for the wider recent auction range, roughly −4% is a fairer long term indication. Our view: attractive presentation and premium positioning have not translated into dependable collector growth, so this is better enjoyed than stored for investment.
