SMWS- Hole Below the Waterline

Maritime and distinctly Campbeltown, this Glen Scotia brings sea spray, mineral notes and oily malt alongside lemon peel, green apple and vanilla. Wisps of smoke mingle with wax, salted butter and weathered wood, creating a character reminiscent of a working harbour. Pepper and coastal salinity gather towards the finish, leaving citrus, gentle smoke and a satisfyingly rugged maritime edge.

Invest | Historical CAGR: Not established | Market outlook: Cautiously positive

Hole Below the Waterline is SMWS 93.166, a 12 Year Old Glen Scotia distilled in March 2009 and bottled in 2021 from a first fill ex bourbon barrel, with only 234 bottles produced. Its original SMWS price was £66, and the bottle is now completely absent from tracked retail. I also found an exact Whisky Hammer auction appearance from August 2021, but its achieved price is hidden in the archive, so there are not two verifiable hammer prices from which to calculate a genuine CAGR. Our view: this is more interesting than the average SMWS release. Glen Scotia brings genuine Campbeltown collector appeal, the outturn is tiny and the bottle scores 86.42 on Whiskybase. We would keep it sealed, although the lack of transparent secondary market trading makes it a cautious rather than proven investment.
