SMWS- Navy Strength Sherry

Details

Dark and imposing, this sherry charged dram delivers dried figs, black cherries and treacle alongside bitter chocolate and roasted coffee. Walnut and tobacco introduce a drier, savoury streak, with maritime salinity cutting through the dense sweetness. Charred wood and pepper build towards the close, leaving dark fruit, cocoa and a salty warmth that gives the whisky a suitably nautical personality.

Drink | Historical CAGR: Not established | Market outlook: Limited

Navy Strength Sherry is SMWS 2.128, a 13 Year Old Glenlivet distilled in March 2007 and released in 2021 from a first fill Oloroso sherry butt, with 590 bottles produced. I checked the auction trail specifically for this cask rather than relying on its rarity. A verified Just Whisky sale achieved £47.50 in July 2021, while Spirit Radar has tracked seven historical offers and auctions but no bottles currently for sale. Unfortunately, accessible records do not give us a second reliable later hammer price, so calculating CAGR would be misleading. Our view: the Glenlivet name, Oloroso maturation and 87 point Whiskybase rating make it attractive, but 590 bottles is relatively substantial for SMWS and there is no evidence yet of meaningful price appreciation. We would drink it rather than hold it purely for investment.
